The free vaccination is available for people in the following groups:
- Those aged 65 years and over
- Those aged six months to under 65 in clinical at-risk groups
- Pregnant women
- Carers of those with long-term conditions.
Appointments can be made by contacting Newent Doctors Practice on 01531 820689. Please call after 11am.
Councillor Alan Grant, Cabinet Member for Health and Well-being said: “Flu is a highly infectious disease, which can lead to more serious health issues, particularly for those in vulnerable groups and we acknowledge that it is extremely important these residents receive their annual vaccination.
“We feel by offering free car parking in our car parks whilst the flu vaccination clinics are taking place at the GP surgery, it will encourage people to take up the offer to protect their health during the winter months.
“If residents are unsure whether they are entitled to a free flu vaccination we urge them to get in touch with their local GP surgery as soon as possible.”
Councillor June Davies, Mayor of Newent added: "The Town Council is grateful to the District Council for agreeing to the free parking for the days in question, which will benefit and encourage those eligible for the flu jabs to go ahead and take advantage of what is on offer."
