You must be 18 or over to vote but can register to vote at 16.

You then need to register every year even if your details haven't changed; you can do this by making sure your details are included on the registration form sent to  your home in August and confirming the details.

Elections can be called at short notice and if you're not registered, you can't vote.

Applications must be received by no later than midnight, 11 working days before election day.

Once you are registered, there are three ways you can vote:

  • Local council members - County, District, Town, Parish
  • Member of Parliament (MP)
  • Member of the European Parliament (MEP)
  • Police and Crime Commissioner
  • Neighbourhood Referendum
