Local graduate Matt scoops full-time planning role after successful internship with District Council
Bream resident Matt Green is celebrating after securing full-time employment at Forest of Dean District Council following a successful 10-week internship with its planning team.
Matt, who is employed by the Council’s service delivery company Publica in Coleford, went up against ten other applicants for the internship role, 90% of which were also local people or young people looking to return to the area.
“My time working as an intern was extremely valuable,” explains Matt.
“The skills and experience I gained gave me the confidence to apply for a permanent graduate role. I am very excited to be working here for the next two years and I think it’s great that the council is focused on investing in young people like me and providing them with valuable experience for their future careers.”
During his internship earlier this year, Matt produced Town Centre Audit reports for the towns of Lydney, Newent, Coleford and Cinderford, which have since proved invaluable to the respective towns. He also worked on Vacant Land and Property Register reports and was a part of the Forward Planning Employment Baseline report team. These reports are vital parts of the planning process and helped Matt to gain invaluable experience.
“Working with the internship team has been very helpful and they have been a wonderful regular contact. A big thank you to the Regeneration and Planning teams that have also been on hand. If I needed help they were there and have been incredibly supportive throughout. Whatever the next two years brings, I am excited to progress and gain even more experience. I intend to progress my career here at the Council.”
The internship programme was designed to attract talent to teams that were struggling to find the correct people for the job, at the same time helping to progress local people into gainful full time employment within the area.
