Maix Vending’s path to sustainability

Proving that renewable energy and growth can go hand in hand!

Background

Established in 1998, Maix Vending is a family-run business that provides a wide range of vending products and services including in-cup drinks, bean to cup machines, roast and ground coffee, snacks, cold beverages and comprehensive machine repairs.

With a strong commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, Maix Vending is always looking for ways to improve its operations. The company have taken significant steps to reduce their carbon emissions whilst saving money on their energy costs too!

Project

In an effort to become more sustainable, Maix Vending installed 78 solar panels on the warehouse roof. This move enabled the company to power its manufacturing processes using renewable energy.

With the support of match funding from the Forest of Dean District Council as part of the Rural England Prosperity Fund, Maix Vending purchased 9 Tesla Powerwall storage batteries. The batteries have allowed them to store solar-generated electricity such as over weekends and during periods of excess solar generation midweek for when it is needed. This means the company have been able to maximise their renewable energy use, even on a rainy day.

Results

Since the installation of the Tesla Powerwall batteries in June, Maix Vending have generated an impressive 9.8 Megawatts of solar electricity. As a result, they are now 51% powered by renewable energy, which has helped them save a staggering £4100 on their electricity bill in just six months.

These cost savings have been reinvested in other projects, including an exciting new product – a 12oz fresh seal cup – enabling them to access new markets such as stadiums.

Maix Vending are committed to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions further and are in the process of completing a carbon audit to identify additional areas where they can improve energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint.

“By embracing renewable technologies, we’ve not only saved jobs, but also unlocked the funding to drive forward new projects and secure our future growth.”
