Make a payment

It's easy, quick and secure to make an online payment. 

All you need is your payment reference number (e.g. Council Tax account or an invoice number) and your payment card details. You can use your bank debit card or credit card to pay online: Visa, MasterCard, Visa Delta and Electron are all accepted.

Telephone payments

Please call 01594 810000 and select option 1 for our automated telephone payments service which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can use this method of payment for:

  • Council Tax
  • Business rates
  • Benefit overpayments
  • Other invoices (sundry debtors) except parking penalty charges

All you need is your payment reference number (eg Council Tax account or an invoice number) and your payment card details. You can use your bank debit card or credit card to pay online: Visa, MasterCard, Visa Delta and Electron are all accepted. Diners Card and American Express can't be used.

When making a direct payment to the Council please use the following details:

  • Account name: Forest of Dean District Council Current Account
  • Account number: 00833506
  • Sort code: 30-91-87

Pay by Direct Debit

This is the easiest method of payment both for you as the customer and for the Council. It saves you the worry of remembering to pay each month, of writing a cheque, buying a stamp, posting a letter or standing in a queue at the Post Office or the Council's Cashiers office. Payment by Direct Debit is covered by a guarantee for your peace of mind. This payment method can be used for:

  • Council tax
  • Business Rates

Payment security

This is a secure website so you can be confident that your payment details are transmitted and stored in a secure and confidential way. The information you give us electronically will only be used for the purpose you intended.

If you are in a public place we strongly advise you to make sure that you are not being observed by someone when you enter your details. This is to prevent them being misused by someone else.

Refund and cancellations policy for internet transactions

For goods and services being purchased via the Council's website:

  • Where the Council fails to deliver in line with our standards, then a full refund will be made
  • The credit / debit card used for the payment will be refunded
  • This will be done as soon as possible but within 14 days of the refund being agreed by the Council
  • Cancellations will only be refunded at the discretion of the Council
  • If the cancellation is agreed by the Council, the customer must take reasonable care of any goods already supplied by the Council until they are collected by the Council
  • If the Council agrees to a refund following a cancellation, then this will be carried out in line with the above.

Where the Council agrees that a refund is due for Council Tax, Business Rates or another payment not  covered under the list above, then:

  • The credit / debit card used for the payment will be refunded
  • This will be done as soon as possible but within 14 days of the refund being agreed by the Council.
