Recovering after a flood

Do not re-enter your house until all floodwater has been removed. The fire service may be able to help you with pumping floodwater out of your house once the water has stopped rising. 

Contact your insurer as soon as possible after a property has been damaged. Claims staff will be able to give advice on the actions you need to take.

Please report all flood situations or incidents of actual property flooding to our flood engineering team on 01594 810000, they can record the flood for future reference and action.

For any flood damaged items you should

  • take photographs of any damage
  • keep any carpets, furniture or other goods that were removed from your home until your insurer has agreed you can get rid of them
  • arrange for bulky household items damaged by flooding can be collected free of charge. They need to be booked by calling customer services on 01594 810000.

Reporting a flood event

If your home or business floods, local authorities are encouraging people to report it so they can better prepare for flood risk in future. You can do this on the Flood Online Reporting Tool.
